I have re-installed my operating system and now nothing works properly?

If you have re-installed your operating system and the display does not show properly or you hear no sound or have an issue with any other hardware device, chances are you need to re-install the drivers for your laptop. These are not automatically installed when you re-install an operating system and has to be done manually. Software drivers allow your operating system to communicate and operate the hardware in your laptop. The latest version of drivers for your Dell laptop can be downloaded here.

Why does my system have a Vista sticker on the palmrest but have XP installed on it?

The Vista logo on the palmrest does not mean that your laptop should have been shipped with Vista and the wrong OS is installed, but is there to verify that the laptop is Vista capable, and if you wish to install Vista at a later stage you may do so.

32-bit operating systems (the most common version; 64-bit systems are typically used only by high-end users) whether it be Vista or XP do not support more than 3GB RAM properly. If you check in the BIOS of the laptop you will see the exact amount of physical RAM your laptop actually does have. To utilise the 4GB (or more) properly a 64-bit operating system needs to be installed.
